Getting Started At Standup

Standup Collective  offers aspiring comedians a supportive platform to perform uncensored stand-up comedy in an open-mic style. To prepare for your first show, it’s recommended to attend at least one Standup Collective event as an audience member to understand the format and rules. Key etiquette includes avoiding distractions, being respectful to peers, and maintaining focus on your own performance. Performances are short (around three to five minutes), and comedians are expected to present original material while adhering to rules such as not insulting the audience, staff, or fellow performers.

The process to secure a spot involves attending at least one of the free Monday workshops prior to bidding for a spot at any of the open mics.

During your set, focus on proper microphone technique, avoid audience mockery, and stick to planned material. Conclude your performance gracefully, ensuring the stage is left in its original state. Even if your debut isn’t perfect, a respectful and enthusiastic approach will open doors for future opportunities. Standup Collective emphasizes having fun, developing your craft, and building connections within the comedy community as part of your journey to becoming a stand-up comedian.
