Doug Mutai is a Kenyan comedian, producer, and cultural organizer working at the intersection of live performance, hospitality, and creative infrastructure. He is the founder of Standup Collective, Kenya’s leading comedy production platforms, which develops live shows, tours, and digital comedy content. Over the past decade, Mutai has been part of the generation of comedians shaping contemporary stand-up in Kenya. Alongside performing, he has focused on building platforms that support the growth of the comedy ecosystem. Through Standup Collective he produces regular live shows, festivals, and collaborative projects that bring together emerging and established comedians from Kenya and across Africa. Mutai also operates performance venues that integrate comedy, food, and social spaces, creating sustainable homes for live comedy in Nairobi. His venues host weekly stand-up shows, storytelling events, debates, and experimental performance formats that nurture new voices while expanding audiences for the art form. His work extends beyond the stage into television and digital comedy development, including sketch productions and online comedy series that explore Kenyan social and political life through satire. Mutai is particularly interested in building international creative exchanges between African comedians and global comedy scenes.
